Local recording does not mean you have to be on the property to use the system. Protect supports secure remote viewing through the UniFi interface. Ubiquiti says the remote session is established through an encrypted connection to the customer's UniFi console while the video itself remains on the customer's system.
For a homeowner, that means checking cameras while traveling. For a business owner, it can mean reviewing an event without driving to the building. For multi-site environments, it gives administrators a consistent interface without changing the local-recording model.

A PTZ camera cannot replace properly placed fixed cameras everywhere. And a recorder without enough storage can shorten retention below what the owner expected.
